John Mateyko lives creatively with passion purpose and adventure

 


John Mateyko lives in the beautiful and peaceful community of Serenbe in Georgia a place known for its artistic charm and natural beauty and even featured on the Today Show. His life is a vibrant mix of creativity community and adventure.

John’s three favorite hobbies are collecting watches taking photos and enjoying the outdoors. He has a deep love for watches that are simple functional and timeless. His collection includes tough Casio G-Shocks and beautifully crafted Seikos and Grand Seikos. For John the beauty is in practicality not flash. He often says the more boring the better showing his love for understated design and everyday reliability.

As a passionate community builder John founded the Serenbe Athletic Association in 2021. He serves as both the Commissioner and game announcer for fun and inclusive leagues of Softball and Kickball. He’s also active in local theater helping raise over 450000 dollars for Terra Academy through shows at Center Stage at Serenbe. Some of these productions include The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge It’s a Wonderful Life Die Hard Once Upon a Time at Nakatomi Plaza and the upcoming Mamma Mia.

John has even stepped into the world of film serving as Christian Bale’s stand-in in Batman Begins and Public Enemies giving him a behind-the-scenes view of major movie sets.

He is a devoted family man who proposed to his wife Slavyana at the fairytale-like Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. Their honeymoon took them to the breathtaking Amalfi Coast followed by a baby-moon in Rome and Lake Como. Their son Sasha now spends summers at the TASIS camp in Lugano Switzerland.

Through photography John captures the beauty in both architecture and nature. His adventures have taken him scuba diving in Hawaii the Philippines Costa Rica Mexico Italy Portugal and even alongside whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium. He’s also sailed to victory in the Midwinters San Francisco Bay Race and biked down the Haleakala volcano in Maui.

Surrounded by Serenbe’s inspiring landscapes and artistic community John Mateyko continues to live a life full of creativity joy and meaningful experiences.
