John’s career began soon after graduating from Augustana College in 1998. By 1999, he was working with Dean Witter in New York City, laying the foundation for a career that would span over two decades. He went on to serve as a financial advisor at leading firms such as Atlas Securities, US Bancorp, Chase, and Fifth Third Securities—gaining expertise in guiding individuals and businesses toward long-term financial security.
In 2010, John founded IDEX Financial in Schaumburg, Illinois, a firm built on the principles of trust and fiduciary responsibility. His vision and leadership led to the firm’s expansion into Atlanta, Georgia, in 2018 through the acquisition of a financial planning practice. Today, IDEX Financial continues to serve clients nationwide with a reputation for integrity and growth-focused planning.
Always committed to advancing his knowledge, John is currently pursuing the CIMA designation at the Yale School of Management. He also holds professional credentials including the RICP® and WMCP™ from the American College of Financial Planning, and the APMA® from the College for Financial Planning.
Beyond his career, John has made a meaningful impact on his community. He lives in the innovative town of Serenbe, Georgia, where he founded the Serenbe Athletic Association in 2021 and serves as Commissioner for its co-ed softball and kickball leagues. His background in youth coaching spans more than a decade, from basketball programs in Illinois to youth sports initiatives in Serenbe.
John is also passionate about the arts. He once worked as a stand-in for Christian Bale on the sets of Batman Begins and Public Enemies. Inspired by his love for theatre, he created the SMZ Community Theater Group, which has raised over $450,000 for Acton Academy. Through this group, he directed The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge in 2021 and is now preparing for It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play in 2023.
On a personal note, John’s life is filled with adventure and family. He proposed to his wife, Slavyana, at Germany’s fairytale-like Neuschwanstein Castle. Together they’ve traveled throughout Europe—from the Amalfi Coast to Rome and Lake Como—and are now raising their son Sasha, who attends summer camp at TASIS in Lugano, Switzerland.
A true adventurer at heart, John has scuba-dived in destinations ranging from the Philippines and Hawaii to Italy and Portugal, and even inside the whale shark exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium. His passion for exploration also led him to sail as part of a winning crew in the Midwinters San Francisco Bay Race and bike down the breathtaking Haleakala volcano in Maui.
